Brian at MGoBlog had his own thoughts on the Kampfer incident, which you can find here.  He also posted the official MSU recap of the game, which was written in a way that seemed to place some blame Chris Summers’ goal.

The game got increasingly physical and feisty as the time wore down, and it helped lead to a Michigan goal at 8:32. After Aaron Palushaj slid into Palmisano from behind and took the goalie out of the play, Chris Summers had a wide-open net into which he deposited his fourth goal of the season. The play was reviewed, but the officials allowed the goal to stand and MSU went back to work to fight back from the two-goal deficit. That did nothing but increase the level of physicality, leading to penalties in the final minutes and a pair of game disqualifications for MSU’s Corey Tropp.

Well, good sir, I see your official press release and raise you this article by Alex DiFilippo of Michigan State University’s The State News.

With the game all but over, U-M’s Steve Kampfer took a run at MSU sophomore forward Corey Tropp at center ice.

Took a run?!  Uh, not exactly…

Conboy punched and threw Kampfer to the ice and Tropp came in and struck Kampfer across the head with his stick.

No mention the punch was from behind a la Bertuzzi…

Yost Ice Arena is known by many as one of the toughest buildings to play in because of how loud and crazy the fans can get. But this was so much different than the usual cheer.

While Kampfer was being helped off the ice, the student section began a cheer that was so loud the ground was trembling in the press box.

I’ll give you a little hint on what it was — the first word rhymed with “duck” and the second word was “State.”

Actually the second word was “you.”  But lets bring the students chant into this…um, okay.  I mean, who would have thought they would react to such a thing?  And my God, they were loud!  I know that concept is foreign at Munn, so maybe he gets a pass for that one.

When the Spartans returned to their locker room, a parent of a U-M player barged in and attempted to fight Tropp.

This type of thing is absolutely unacceptable.

The CCHA has to come down with some sort of fine or punishment on U-M for not having proper security outside of the opposing team’s locker room.

Who would have thought a parent would get mad at watching their son getting assaulted from behind and whacked in the face with a stick?  Yeah, shame on them…?

And have you seen the visitor’s locker room that is nothing more than a curtain around the outside?  It’s not that hard to get in.  I don’t condone the parent for what he allegedly did, but sure, lets continue the U-M blame game.  But lets save the best for last.

Instead of being the victims in this incident, U-M fans became part of the problem and committed some big-time sins of their own.

Wow… just… wow…

So to recap: Chris Summers’ goal caused Michigan State to have to play harder.  Blame Summers.  Steve Kampfer then “took a run” at Corey Tropp, which in turn resulted in Conboy and Tropp assaulting Kampfer.  Blame Kampfer.  The fans then reacted with a massive “Fuck you, State!” chant.  Blame the fans, those “big-time” sinners.  A parent went to confront Tropp over his two-handed whacks at a down player.  If Kampfer’s dad, blame a father for getting mad at watching his son get assaulted on ice just months after getting assaulted off ice.  It’s all our fault, it’s all our fault!

Worst.  Article.  EVER.
