Bob Miller at The Wolverine is reporting that a reliable source tells him forward JT Compher has verbally committed to Michigan for 2013.

Compher plays for the Team Illinois Midget Minor U16 team of the MWEHL/Tier 1 Elite Hockey League.  He’s listed at 6’0, 165 lbs and from Northbrook, IL.  Compher is fourth in team scoring with 35 points in 29 games (15 goals, 20 assists).  Even though he’s fourth in team scoring, he is seventh overall in league scoring.  Yeah, you read that right—fourth in team scoring, seventh in league scoring.  Team Illinois is pretty loaded at the top.  Their top three scorers are the #2, #3, and #4 league leading scorers.

The Scouting News has a teaser to one of their pay articles that says, “The most complete two way threat from the state of Illinois in the 1995 age group is without a doubt former Team Illinois U16 sniper JT Compher,” and another teaser that indicates at least one OHL scout considers him a first round OHL Draft talent.

Hockey’s Future message board poster American Dream, who posts frequently about American prospects, wrote this about Compher and his teammate Gabe Guertler a few weeks ago:

Now there are two other really solid kids to keep an eye on, and both I have had the pleasure of watching near my back yard..both Team Illinois kids JT Compher and Gabe Guertler. Guertler is an interesting story as he has come from Florida to play Tier-1 for Team Illinois. This kid is simply astounding. He has such amazing hands and what a shot. This kid is something special to watch.

Compher is a bit bigger and plays with a bit more jam the Guertler, but he is something to keep an eye on as well. Compher imo is a better playmaker then scorer, but that doesnt mean this kid cant score. I firmly expect USA Hockey to do everything in their power to snag both of these kids up for their program next year, but keep an eye on both of these young guns, as they are looking very promising right now.
