Reports are out this morning that a “major announcement” is set to be made by the Cleveland Indians at 2 p.m. ET today, and it appears the long talked about outdoor hockey game between Michigan and Ohio State at Progressive Field in Cleveland is finally going to be announced.
According to Crain’s Business Cleveland, the game will be called the Frozen Diamond Faceoff and played Sunday, January 15.
However, the request for proposals (RFP) to be the Indians’ preferred hotel for Snow Days shows concrete plans for a hockey component to the winter attraction. It includes a 46-team youth hockey tournament from Nov. 21 through Nov. 27, with “the majority of teams residing outside the state,” according to the RFP. It also outlines the “1st Frozen Diamond Faceoff on Sunday Jan. 15th featuring two major college hockey programs.”
“We’re scouting for one (1) hotel to become the preferred hotel of Indians Snow Days and the Frozen Diamond Faceoff Sunday January 15th,” the RFP states.
The press conference will be streamed at indians.com.
