Awaiting HOCKEYBEAR rampage

This morning I received an e-mail from Michigan’s sports marketing wing on all the different hockey ticket packages available this season.  As I perused the offers, something immediately jumped out at me—the logo for Friday, January 11.  A quick check of the schedule confirmed that we are indeed facing Alaska that day…the Alaska Nanooks.  The logo in the e-mail…which still has not been updated in their viewable ad online…is for the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.  D’oh!  Needless to say, HOCKEYBEAR* was none to pleased to learn of this mistake.

HOCKEYBEAR now has a rampage schedule for Alaska’s visit to Yost Ice Arena in January, too…

…though he tells the Children of Yost the rampage can be averted…

Perhaps we can offer the individual who made the mistake as a sacrifice?

To be continued…!

YOST ICE ARENA OPEN HOUSE

Yost Ice Arena will be holding an open house this Sunday, September 30 from noon to 1:30 p.m. ET.  This event is open to everyone and will be your first chance to see all the upgrades they did to the arena over summer.  If you got the time to spare, head on over.  It should be an awesome viewing.

RED BERENSON SHOW

The Red Berenson Show returns to the airwaves next Tuesday.  The program will air live from 6-7 p.m. ET on WTKA 1050AM and broadcast from The Arena Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Ann Arbor.  In addition, the show will also stream live on MGoBlue.com and air on WCAR 1090AM in Detroit (tape delay), WTRX 1130AM in Flint, WIAN 1240AM in Ishpeming (tape delay), WLDN 98.7FM in Ludington, and WDMJ 1320AM in Marquette (tape delay).  Wow, two Yooper stations.

This year’s hosts are WTKA’s Ira Weintraub and TV play-by-play man Ben Holden.

TOP PROSPECTS GAME SATURDAY

The inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game takes place Saturday in Buffalo and will feature 40 top American-born players eligible for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

The University of Michigan will be represented by their three U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18 Team commits J.T. Compher, Tyler Motte, and Evan Allen, and defenseman Michael Downing of the Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL).  All four players will play for Team Housley at the event.

Freshman goalie Jared Rutledge was originally selected for the game but got replaced a few weeks ago.  I’m not sure if it’s due to his commitments with Michigan or because, well, he was draft eligible this past summer and not selected and really wasn’t on the radar to be drafted and they wanted to give another up and coming goalie an opportunity.

HAGELIN TO PLAY IN SWEDEN

ESPN New York’s Katie Strang reports on Twitter that former Michigan captain Carl Hagelin has signed with his hometown team SK Södertälje in Sweden.  Bork! Bork! Bork! Ten days ago the New York Times reported that Hagelin was exploring the option.
