Michigan 6, Alaska-Anchorage 1

By Jason Paul | October 11, 2009

Michigan rebounded at the Kendall Hockey Classic with a 6-1 beating of Alaska-Anchorage.

The Wolverines line of Matt Rust, Chris Brown, and Carl Hagelin powered the offense, accounting for four goals and four assists.

Michigan jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game.  Ben Winnett got the first U-M goal of the season after he stole the puck behind the Sea Wolves net and sent a pass in front that deflected off a UAA defender and in to the net. Then Brian Lebler made it 2-0 at 4:37 on a power play when he deflected a shot by Chris Summers past UAA goalie Bryce Christianson.

Hagelin added U-M’s second power play tally of the opening period with 1:35 left to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.  The Swede scooped up a blocked shot and chipped the puck past Christianson.

In the second period, Brown netted his first career goal at 9:22 when he banged in a crossing pass from Tristian Llewellyn.  Minutes later, Brown would get the primary assist on Matt Rust’s goal, which came on a 3-on-2 rush, to give Michigan a commanding 5-0 lead.

U-M goalie Bryan Hogan would have his shutout spoiled with 18 seconds left in the second stanza when Kevin Clark scored for the Sea Wolves.  Hogan finished the game with 15 saves.

Brown would add his second goal of the night with 4:49 remaining in the third period to cap off the scoring.

Michigan has a bye next weekend, then will host Niagara on Thursday, October 22, before heading off to face Boston University on Saturday the 24th.
