Loved this article, but there are some things I didn't agree with Red on:

Top Five Teams:

1.  96-97:   I didn't think there was any chance they were not going to repeat.  That team was unstopppable.

2.  96-96:  Of course, this was the team that finally broke the glass ceiling.  Plus, it was a great game.

3.  94-95:  This is the game that got me hardcore into Michigan and college hockey in general.

4.  97-98:  Maybe not the most talented team he has had, but what this team accomplished in the championship game with just four defensemen counts for alot.  Probably the team with the most heart outside of the Jed years.

5.  04-05:  The loss to CC at GR was heartbreaking, but this team had a boatload of talent.  Maybe the most raw talent since the 97 class.  Nystrom, Tambellini, Montoya, Hensick, Hunwick, Porter and Kolarik.

Top Five Games:

1.  1998:  Michigan v UND in NCAA Regional Final:  I was at this game.  Overcoming two goal deficits twice, two disallowed goals, beating the #2 seed in the region.  Just awesome.

2.  1996 National Championship.  Duh.

3.  1998 National Championship:  Heart stopping, with kind of an anti-climatic win on the goal by Josh….. if you are not a Wolverine fan :)

4.  1996:  Mark Legg goal.

5.  2008 National Semi-Final:  Even with the loss to the Irish, this game was absolutely incredible, no matter which way you cut it.  Besides, I think all the outdoor games have kind of watered everything down and the Cold War doesn't seem as special anymore.

Toughest Losses

1.  1997 loss to Boston

2.  1997 loss to Boston

3.   1997 loss to Boston

4.  1997 loss to Boston:  Every cynical Michigan fan has the game and team that created them.  For me, this was that game.  That's why it gets the top four spots. I've never had as much faith in a Michigan team's ability to win big games since this one.

5.  2005 loss to CC:  I was at this game and to blow a three goal lead just summed up that team.  Constantly underacheiving despite a boatload of talent.

Top Five Rivalries

1.  Michigan State

2.  Lake State

3.  Minnesota

4.  Maimi (this one is more of what can be.  This is our new Lake State)

5.  North Dakota (This is more of a selfish choice.  I have a buddy that worked at UND.  If you look back at the series of games that we have had with the Sioux, there are very few that weren't awesome.  Even the losses)

Top Five Players

1.  Brendan Morrison

2.  Jed Ortmeyer (I dont' care if he wasn't the most talented.  He was a true Captain and came up with some big goals when they were most needed)

3.  Marty Turco:  How Red missed this one, I have no idea.  Most NCAA victories ever and two National Titles.

4.  John Madden:  For the shorties alone.

5.  Denny Felsner:  No love for the points leader until Morrison came along?

Top Five Captains

1.  Jed Ortmeyer.  Duh

2.  Porter

3.  Herr

4.  Hilton

5.  Nystorm:  Not sure about this one.  A good captain get's the most out of his team, and Nystrom captained one of the most underachieving Michigan teams ever.

Top Defensemen:

1.  Jack Johnson:  The only guy that could ever take up Red's airport ride offer

2.  Mike Van Ryn:  I know, I know.  He was the evil man who set up the loophole that let alot of college players leave early, but what he did as a freshman in the 98 title game was awesome.  Plus, he was one of my favorites.

3.  Mike Komisarek:  A man playing among boys.

4.  Matt Hunwick:  Always dependable on the blue line.

5.  Blake Sloan
